The club’s newest sponsors gave members food for thought on the risks of losing control of the legacies they pass on to the next generation during an introductory seminar on inheritance tax, home ownership and wills.

The talk, by Angela Rancon, director of estate planning firm Aria Legal, and its Sussex-based senior representative, Steve Griffiths, was part of a package of support the firm is offering the club over the next three years.

The firm does not charge for initial no-obligation consultations, and the sponsorship deal also includes annual financial contributions to the club.

November’s presentation came shortly after another financial guru, Steve Korniotis, of Responsible Equity Release, addressed members.

His firm, which specialises in advice on releasing equity in owned homes to fund the requirements of later life, also makes an annual financial contribution to the club.

With the club also enjoying considerable help from Howden Insurance and long-standing sponsors Specsavers and P&S Gallagher, these additions mark a notable step forward in the commercial fundraising side of our enterprise.

Chairman John Milsom said: “Sponsorship is important for all clubs. The money raised allows you to keep joining fees low. The free advice they give is especially helpful at this moment in time.”

Our sponsors - contacts and other details:

P & S Gallagher – Sussex Road, Haywards Heath (01444 451166)
Gallagher is the club’s premier, long-standing and generous sponsor, which has funded entire bowls events, such as the Millennium Cup competition and the visit from the Chelsea Royal Hospital Pensioners’ team.

It also provides raffle prizes, scorecards and shirts for new members.

Howden Insurance – Tom Tear (manager) 01444 719850
The club receives a payment for each new policy (motor, home and other) and renewals purchased by a club member (club secretary needs to be informed).

Specsavers – South Road, Haywards Heath
Frequent sponsorship, from open days and the David Johns Trophy competition to social events.
Discounts for members buying glasses on production of our fixture handbook. (Discounts vary).

The club also receives substantial support from Mid Sussex District Council, which has provided a number of grants for various projects and funded the purchase of the new, larger shed, which is now in place.

John added: “The bowling fraternity isn't getting any younger and sometimes requires help to keep playing. The grant awarded to us by MSDC allows us to purchase equipment to try in some way to overcome this problem.”
