Another bumper pay day for our special charity
West Hoathly won the Millennium Trophy for the third year in a row - but the biggest achievements of the day were avoiding the predicted thunderstorms and raising another tidy sum for our pet charity, St Peter & St James Hospice.
The weather forecast was not promising as we embarked on our annual all-day tournament, attended by our near-neighbours St Francis and Burgess Hill and, of course, West Hoathly.
But apart from a couple of heavy showers, we emerged relatively unscathed, meaning that everything ran to schedule, on and off the green.
It was a nail-biter this year, as West Hoathly - who have now won the trophy in each of the three years they have taken part - and Burgess Hill finished level on 24 points. But the reigning champions had the higher total of shots and took the trophy home yet again.
The total sum raised is still being calculated, but it will be posted on here - and in the Middy - once it is confirmed.
Three points against the champions help us clinch third place in Mid Sussex League
Congratulations to our Mid Sussex League team who took three points off newly crowned league champions Henfield to finish third in Division Three.
We managed to win one, draw one and lose one against the consistently strongest team in the league, earning us three points - and enabling us to leapfrog St Francis into third place.
Henfield won the division by 13 points from Isle of Thorns, who defeated Crawley Town last night.
We started the day level with St Francis but behind them on shot difference.
But they picked up only two points from their defeat at Southgate Park, meaning we pipped them by one - and suddenly that draw on Anne's rink in the fading light becomes crucial.
The winning rink, skipped by Neville, included Graham Aldis, Marge and Graham Barton.
Ultimately, as in several competitions this season, we came up just short - but with honour and, I believe, greater respect from some of our rival clubs.
Notably, only the champions won more rinks over the course of the Mid Sussex League season than we did. Unfortunately, it was the shot count that made the difference - and we lost three games where we actually "won" on rinks.
Division Three final table:
Played Shot difference Points
1) Henfield 12 96 87
2) Isle of Thorns 12 96 74
3) Haywards Heath & BH 12 12 67
4) St Francis 12 68 66
5) Southgate Park 12 -72 50
6) Crawley Town 12 -82 43
7) Horsham Park 12 -118 33
Valiant effort at Burgess Hill's charity day
We just about cobbled together a couple of teams, following a spate of injuries and holiday commitments, but we put up a fine show at Burgess Hill's Malcolm Mackenzie charity day.
With many of the absentees from our Ladies' section, we had to borrow two players from the hosts. But we gave Hurstpierpoint, Southwick Park and Burgess Hill a run for their money - and gave the hosts actual money, too, for their brilliant charity, Cure Usher Syndrome.
We finished fourth (out of four) but enjoyed wins over both winners Southwick Park and runners-up Burgess Hill during the day-long competition.
Interestingly, we were the only team to score at least a point in each of the six sessions.
More importantly, around £1,000 was raised on the day for Hill's pet charity - take a look here. It's worth reading.
Final scores:
1) Southwick Park - 21 points
2) Burgess Hill - 19
3) Hurstpierpoint - 18
4) Haywards Heath & BH - 14
